What Is Diabetic Ketosis?
Diabetic ketosis is a metabolic state that occurs when the body starts breaking down fats instead of carbohydrates for energy, leading to the production of ketones. It is primarily associated with diabetes, particularly Type 1, and can occur when there is insufficient insulin to use glucose for energy, resulting in high blood sugar and ketone levels. If not managed, it can progress to diabetic ketoacidosis, a serious and potentially life-threatening condition.
